What is SOUP?

A micro-grant dinner that fosters community & raises funds for creative projects that enhance Fort Wayne living.
All ages are welcome to attend and submit proposals. We encourage everyone in the community to participate in anyway they can!

Our Mission

Fort Wayne SOUP’s mission is to promote community-based development through crowdfunding, creativity, collaboration, democracy, trust, and fun.

Our Vision

Fort Wayne SOUP’s vision is to empower residents, create jobs, create relationships and networks, promote action and change, foster critical dialogue, instill Fort Wayne pride, and encourage a deeper understanding of democracy.

Our Goal

We envision changing the way people engage with the democratic process and their community through:
● Establishing key partnerships with community leaders to support SOUP
● Creating a self-sustaining model that neighborhoods can implement on a smaller scale
● Gaining participants from every corner of our city

How does SOUP work?

Optional donation of $5 or more at the door. Each guest gets soup, salad, bread and a vote.
At each SOUP dinner there are four presentations on projects ranging from art, urban agriculture, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and more.

Presentations

Each presenter has four minutes to stand up and share their amazing idea with the attendees.

Questions

Following each presentation, the audience has the opportunity to ask four follow-up questions.

Discussion

After the presentations, audience members are encouraged to discuss and debate over dinner before casting their vote.

Vote

Audience members vote on which proposal they believe benefits their community the most.

The presenter who receives the most votes wins all the money collected at the door!

SOUP Events

All events are held at The Summit. Doors open at 6:00 PM and presentations begin promptly at 6:30 PM. Dinner is served at 7:00 PM with the winner announced at 7:45 PM. The event wraps at 8:00 PM and we invite our guests to stick around and help tidy up the place!

The next SOUP will be held on Thursday, June 14th, and the deadline for proposal submissions is Thursday, May 10th. You must be 18 years old or younger to submit a proposal for the June SOUP.
After this we return to the SOUP stage on Thursday, July 12th with our traditional format (open to all submissions regardless of age). The deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, June 22nd.
The Final 2018 SOUP will be held on Thursday, October 11th, and the deadline for proposal submissions is Friday, September 21st.

Important! If you are selected to present you MUST agree to go to pitch practice with members of Fort Wayne Confluence. Pitch practice helps you refine your presentation to ensure maximum impact. Your chances of walking away with the win and the cash depends solely on your ability to present a clear, concise and persuasive four minute presentation to a room full of strangers. That’s no easy task! Don’t fret though, we are here to help.  Just know that being selected to present is only step one in the preparation process as you set out to wow the crowd on the SOUP stage.

Submit Your Idea

Thank you for your interest in participating at our next SOUP! The submission deadline for the March 1st SOUP has now passed. Good news though, you can still submit a proposal for our next event in July! As a confirmation our Proposal Chair will reach out to you after we have received your form submission. If you do not hear from us within 48 hours of your proposal being submitted or if you have any questions or concerns please email Mark Green at mark.green@fortwaynesoup.org. Thank you for contributing to the development of the Fort Wayne community!

Your submission will be reviewed by the SOUP Board. After the final submission date for the upcoming FW SOUP event, we will let you know if your idea is selected to pitch.

Before You Begin

We appreciate your interest in presenting at a SOUP event. Keep in mind that only four people will be selected to present at each dinner. If you did not get selected, please don't get discouraged! We accept and encourage repeat proposals. Thank again!

If you are having issues submitting your proposal, if you have submitted a proposal and have not heard from us, or if you have any other question or concerns don't hesitate to contact Mark Green at mark.green@fortwaynesoup.org.
